Kicking around some ideas for performing in children’s hospitals, something I’ve done a lot of when on tour with Beakman live stage shows. I want to do ventriloquism, but I suspect Butch may be too scary for kids…half the adults who meet him are scared to death. Lynn Jeffries and I are going to explore some puppets she has as possible walk-arounds from room to room as well as shows in day rooms. We will see.
The pic is of Butch and me in Prague with a passing, disinterested chicken.

WHITE LIKE ME: A Honky Dory Puppet Show
Performed by Paul Zaloom
Created by Zaloom and Lynn Jeffries
Directed by Randee Trabitz
Bootleg Theater is proud to present the West Coast Premiere of Paul Zaloom’s latest puppet extravaganza, “WHITE LIKE ME: A Honky Dory Puppet Show”. Zaloom employs the drawing room medium of toy theater to tell the story of the archetypical white man and his universe. White-Man leaves his planet Caucazoid, travels through space, civilizes the earth (populated with aliens), becomes a philanthropist and savior, and finally, freaks out about his approaching minority status.
The puppet cast is drawn from the gigantic collection of knick-knacks and brick-a-brac collected by the artist over the years: action figures, toy cars, dolls, found objects, weird junk, and more. Plus Zaloom’s creepy dummy sidekick Butch Manly drops by to add his bilious two cents.
A comedy.

I’m in Prague, doing a bunch of performances at the Quadrennial theater design shindig. In the middle of the US exhibit, I’m performing three scenes from The Adventures of White-Man with video projection. It’s been a gas. Prague is ye olde charming and quaint and stuffed to the gills with creeps like me (tourists). Saw a Georg Grosz show yesterday….brilliant.
